Travertine, a natural stone that is excavated from quarries around the world, possesses beautiful variations. Because of its availability in a wide variety of styles and colors, it is easy to find the perfect match for many interior and exterior flooring needs. Travertine performs very much like a limestone, is slightly more absorbent, and may scratch or etch. Most come with an epoxy resin to fill the naturally-occurring holes created during its formation near hot and cold springs.
Overview: Travertine is common for both exterior and interior purposes.
Appearance: Most natural travertine is dark, ranging from ecru to dark red, with a variety of vein colors.
Beneficial Features: Natural travertine is softer than marble or granite and should be sealed.
Care Instructions: Wipe down travertine regularly with a clean, damp cloth and then dry with a towel. Avoid abrasive bleach or caustic cleaners as these can stain, etch, or dull the appearance of the stone.
